Sandwiches
done properly

A bold, New York-style deli counter opening in Bournemouth in spring 2027. Slow-cooked meats, sauces made from scratch, and sandwiches stacked so high they barely close.

The founder

Hi, I'm Chris

I've worked in kitchens for over ten years, and Loaf & Loaded is a dream I've had for a long time. Now it's finally happening.

I started out in a pub as an eager 16-year-old, learning everything on the job. After a couple of years I moved to a proper American BBQ smokehouse, and that's where my love of this kind of food really took off: low-and-slow meat, big bold flavours, and the patience it takes to do it right.

More recently I've been cooking on food trucks at festivals up and down the country, including Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Download, which kept feeding my inspiration for the next chapter. A few years ago I also ran food truck residencies right here in Bournemouth as The Street Kings, serving smashed burgers, thick shakes and loaded fries, so this town has already had a taste of what I do.

Where the idea came from

Ever since then, I've been seeking out sandwich delis and cafés wherever I go, and collecting ideas along the way. The best ones all had the same thing in common: they took the sandwich seriously. Proper fillings, made in-house, and not a sad, thin sandwich in sight.

Loaf & Loaded is everything I've learned and loved, stacked between two slices: pork shoulder cooked low and slow for hours, porchetta roasted until the crackling shatters, salt beef sliced thick, and sauces, slaws and pickles made from scratch. All on bread from a local bakery.

Why Bournemouth

I moved to Bournemouth almost ten years ago, and it's home. There's so much that's great about this brilliant seaside town, and so much more I think it could become. I want Loaf & Loaded to be part of that: a place locals make a habit of, and one visitors go out of their way to find.

What we stand for

Slow-cooked

No shortcuts. Our meats take hours, because that's how you get flavour that falls apart in your mouth.

Stacked high

Generous by default. If you can close it easily, we haven't done our job.

Made here

Sauces, slaws, pickles and specials are all made in-house, and our bread comes from a local bakery.

Always something new

Five sandwiches that never leave the menu, plus a new special every week, from Nashville hot chicken to Christmas leftovers.
